Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 v.2-400 Parts Upgrade Kit: Condition is New. The 400 watt Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 and earlier v.2-400 computer speaker system remains popular with owners for its clarity and power. After years of use, though, a number of components will have degraded from heat. This kit addresses the common components most likely to degrade (apart from the 6.5" speakers; see note "Rubber Speaker Surrounds" four paragraphs below). There are two similar versions of ProMedia that has four satellite speakers plus a control pod beneath one of the satellites and a dual 6.5" speaker subwoofer. The earlier version is the v.2-400. (It is labeled that way above the power cord on the amplifier panel--see photo). The v.2-400's control pod has only three knobs and no headphone jack on the side of the pod. The later, 4.1 ProMedia's control pod has three knobs plus a push button switch (a light switches from red to green) and headphone and auxiliary input jacks on the side. See the photos in this listing's variations for examples of the v.2-400 and 4.1 pods side by side, and the jacks found on the side of the 4.1 pod version. The amplifier parts are the same, but the control pod for the 4.1 has additional components to replace. Eleven components are for the amplifier panel. Two components are for the v.2-400 control pod and five components are for the 4.1 control pod. Included with the kit are Kester solder, instructions and photos of the components' location. The new parts are upgraded quality or rating: 4 Panasonic or Nichicon low ESR / low impedance capacitors, two ceramics, and a solid (film) cap replace original Chinese capacitors. A new Zener diode is mounted above the board to stay cooler. Three 3-watt resistors replace lower wattage originals. The control pod houses a preamplifier and the kit includes new main and rear/surround volume control potentiometers. The 4.1 version of the kit adds two new ICs with 8-pin sockets and a replacement latching switch. Rubber Speaker Surrounds: This is a good time to remove the grills from the subwoofer's 6.5" speakers to check their condition. The foam surrounds degrade after 10-20 years. They become weak and eventually crumble. I usually have new rubber surrounds in stock in a separate listing. I also often have refoamed speakers available for purchase, or can refoam your speakers if you wish to send them with your amplifier panel and control pod. Figure $26 per speaker to refoam each with a new rubber surround. No other speaker brand matches the 6-ohm impedance of Klipsch's originals. Different impedance means either risking damage to the amplifier from too low impedance, or loss of power from speaker impedance being too high. Shipping & Installation Option The kit alone ships next business day from the Midwest, but if the buyer prefers to have me install the kit, then installation is an option, and I will not ship the kit by itself. The buyer must mail his/her amplifier and control pod/preamplifier to me for installation. So the shipping time for this kit is noted as "20 business days" to allow for time to ship your panel and pod to me for installation of the kit and any other repair that is needed. The panel and pod can ship snugly inside a USPS Medium Flat Rate Box, which costs about $15.00. The buyer must pay for his/her own shipping of their equipment to me. My return shipping is included with this purchase for a panel and pod ONLY. Returning a heavy, complete subwoofer will have additional shipping cost). Packing : I suggest cutting out a single or double-thickness cardboard spacer to line the bottom of the USPS box, with an opening cut out for the satellite speaker terminals and the power cord.
